On the 18th of March 2008 he was born, after 25 weeks of pregnancy, and with a weight of 860 grams. He was small and vulnerable, and was immediately put into the incubator. However, I was aware of the significance of skin-to-skin contact. We have held him, for hours, days, months at a stretch. We have taken care of him ourselves as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Together with us, and intensively supported by doctors and nurses, Benjamin takes a long and difficult road. After 110 days of hospitalization he can finally sleep in his own cradle. The years that followed were not carefree, but, to our joy, Benjamin develops thrivingly.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><\/div><!--close column table wrapper. Benjamin was born after 25 weeks of pregnancy, but his case is not unique. Worldwide 15 million premature babies are born each year. The combination of his far too early birth and my years of experience as a nurse at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) constituted the basis for the Benjamin Care products.
